Any reason why you think it's unlikely Budgie, apart from it's always quite unlikely? The fish-ins have a pretty good record for producing bream...

 

Just as you say the fact that (due to the small number and elusive nature) its allways unlikely coupled with the unsettled conditions that cancell out the "plus factors" ie more anglers and predicted lower tench activity. I hope Im proved wrong though!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

I'd just like to wish good luck, (or skill), and decent weather to all those going to Wingham. I hope (for once) Budgie is wrong, and a few of those big bream put in an appearance.

I find the Wingham Perch, well the bigger ones very frustrating and have not caught as many big ones as I would like. Low light levels caused by cloud etc and a chop on the water can help. However rather unsociably the most consitant time for me for the Perch has been dawn or just before, which involves geting up when its dark and changing baits. That half light just at dawn does seem good for Perch at Wingham but it does mean geting up at stupid o'clock at this time fo year but if you are in a good Perch swim it might be worth the effort. The eels can also be rather active just before dawn, so expect a few bits from them if you are hardy enough for a dawn session.

 

The reality is that they can come at any time, to those using appropriate baits. Oddly the actual margins around the side of the pit has never really been productive for me for Perch, that could just be swim selection so I would not put any one of fishing them for Perch.

 

Like Perch everywhere light levels do seem key to Perch fishin at Wingham but have had them in full sun. Steve B is the man to ask about Perch and he should be able to give you pointers on your swim.

Thanks Dales, my plan was to find 3 different depths hopefully to find the depth they are happy to feed at during different times of the day. I am hoping to get a visit from Steve early Saturday while I'm looking for spots :-)

We have done a lot of speculating about what might get caught etc and I think if conditions are good for the Perch, those taking the time to target them might get a decent one. I might be wrong but dont seem to remember to many big ones being caught at the last two Fish-Ins, Steve B is the fountain of knowledge on Perch and am sure he will have plenty of tips for those who gave a preference for fishing for them and would have tried to put them in the right swim.

 

Hopefully a few of the big ones will put in an appearence, I am not even on the coarse lake this weekend and am getting excited about Perch and Bream :-)

A great shame John.I understand your reasoning though. As much as Wingham "suits" some anglers more than others some anglers "suit" Wingham more than others!.As such I personally feel its a great shame that you cant take up a ticket and join us.

That's a great line Budgie and am sure it will be quoted over time and agree its a shame John can not make it this time.

good luck to everyone ,given up believing i will ever get down there ,the mrs problems get in the way and now no transport and to tired and broke to bother getting something else so i will wait to see the lucky buggers and their smug faces holding their catches as usual :bleh:
