Finding POP3 and SMTP server settings

Recommended Posts

I recently had laptop stolen, and had new one from insurance company with Windows 8. I'm mainly sorted now except that I do a lot of emails and would like to use something like Outlook Express or Windows Mail which I have used in the past. A friend has spent hours trying to get Outlook loaded for me, but for some reason it is 'send only'. He feels the problem might be that the server settings are wrong. How can I find these out? I assume I should be able to phone or email Orange and ask them, but I can't even work out how to do that - ie I can't find the phone number.

Any help appreciated.

hi unfortunately outlook express doesn't work with windows 8,

outlook settings are available from the microsoft website

or you could use incredimail Free edition it automatically

sets up your email accounts IE: yahoo aol blueyonder etc ,

or there's live mail from windows basicly the same as hotmail.

smtp.freeserve.co.uk

pop.freeserve.com

and if you want something like outlook express or windows mail I like thunderbird, easy to install / configure, and customise as you want it

Windows live for windows7, bit of a pest but easy to use when used to it, bit like OE

John, I think Nick's advice should do the trick.

It's disappointing that the automatic configuration seems not to have worked for you, if everything is set up correctly these days you can usually configure email with just an email address and password!

You say it's Outlook and not outlook express right?

In which case what ISP are you with?

You also say its send only...not receiving? It's usually the other way round and smtp settings won't effect that with server authentication. You don't authenticate to receive....only send.

Orange have been taken over by EE so your now in fact 3 companies/email take overs down the line from your original freeserve settings!

Outlook can be finicky with port settings so it might be that.
