eels

You won't get much more anecdotal than a local newspaper report. There are many more substantial references online if one wants to look for them, though it may be harder to find an overview. This might be a start though http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/static/documents/Research/1_The_European_Eel.pdf

That link was first published before both the management plans. In addition, all we see on the link is the claim that the stock is depleted, one chart, with nothing to indicate where and how the information came about. that is the reason for my topic to get to information that has credibility, i.e. did the trust use facts to support an angling take ban or was it anecdotal. Thanks anyway.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

.............................................. and still say that the numbers taken by recreational anglers will make a difference?

John.

Not quite right goz, the e a at the time of the ban proposal stated that the take by the anglers was insignificant. That was ignored by the trust, with the famous saying at the time by a certain rep that every one counts, still advocating fishing for them with the definite knowledge that a number of eels caught are going to be sent back dead, of course fishing for them continues. So how many eel have died by anglers? None according to some in the aquilla club, yer right.

You'll probably need to go to bodies like ICES and other academic researchers to probe the detail, but it would seem there is enough to support the general tenor, even if the internet is full of brief reports.

bluedun,

Raining like crazy over here. This topic is quite interesting so I've spent the better part of 3 hrs reading on the internet. This bit may say it as well as I can in as much as it is 2013. http://icesjms.oxfordjournals.org/content/64/7/1472.full

It appears while reviewing scholarly works I've found that England prefers to go out on their own so to speak. ICES data is primarily from the continent with the UK being only a very small unreliable part of the available data. European Eel "management plans" are - at present 13 April 2013, hocus pocus.

EDIT: Oops! forgot the second link the the "management plans"
