Are we cliquing up?

Nugg - you mean you don't think the bivy is lots friendlier at night (especially in winter) with a little warm companionship?

Of course I'm assuming that no self-respecting angler would even ever consider having a bivy companion of the opposite gender to whom he/she wasn't lawfully wed.

Newt I'm not one of the silly breed who live on the banks for days on end, I like my bed too much, and I know theres always a warm backside there to keep me warm. How would it be if she were to come fishing and get it all cold, Brrrrr no thanks, I'll keep her at home in the warm where she should be.

Newt? Coarse fishing section?

I`ve also been keeping unoficial tallies?

I`m a purely sea-angling man. Member 43, yet I don`t think you`ll find many questions from newbies that I`ve not responded to? Yet I`ve only managed about 550 postings on this site. Most of my replies have been sent by direct mail if the poster has given an e.mail addy.

My trip with Davy Holt did not originate from this site, but several weekly charters in S.Wales have. Some newbie asked a question and I answered direct. We kept in touch and eventually made a charter together.

When I originally registered on this site. Replies to some of my questions took weeks for an answer to appear!

I think it`s very rarely you`ll ever find a question from a new poster on the sea fishing forum, going more than 36hrs without a reply?

Maybe deep sea anglers are more used to having to share with new people?

Paul.

We don`t use J`s anymore!!

Coarse section it was spasor. The Sea forum doesn't seem to have the problem (or the volume of posts either so easier to keep up).

My starting this thread was partly from unanswered posts but mostly from seeing that some of the regular posters had commented both before and after the new folks posted but only to threads/comments from other regulars - thus the "clique" part.

It's an easy habit to fall into I know. Also an easy way to kill a bbs. Not quick but if some new folks don't stick around and some old-timers leave, pretty soon there just ain't many folk posting on the forum. 3K members is wonderful but if only 3 or 30 are active, things can get pretty boring.

I agree with Paul here, sea anglers are thrown together in a boat, possibly 10 people unknown to each other but at the end of the day (usually) they all end up as mates, some address's are exchanged for future trips. The more experienced will go out of there way to help others. The contents of tackle boxes are delved into to compare rigs etc. "Here mate try a bit of squid to top your bait off with" the angler then starts to catch and a new friendship is formed. Secret weapons/baits stay secret for minutes only. This sharing of knowledge/tackle/baits/ribbing/windind ups is so much a part of sea fishing (including shore), fish are a bonus. This attitude is carried over to the Sea angling forum.

I had a lot of help on the coarse section with my carp problems, loads of advice etc so am not knocking any of the forums.

In a word newt YES,

Most of the replies seem to dodge the question,

as per usual.

On a thread about stolen gear some time ago, that really had some of the "clique" coming out, and as one member put it the "in crowd" and remarks like "why do newbies not take time to do their home work".

I dont post as often on this board, only look in now and again, and its still is the same, the clique is alive and well,

I put an appeal up about the Elvington Fish In,

only 10 or so people posted, that excludes the people who were involved in the appeal, makes me wonder what response one of the "clique" would have got ???????.

Hi Jangar, long time.......

No one should get humpy about not getting any or many responses, we are all free to ignore anything we want, or answer anything we want.

I have been around a couple of years but can remember my early days wondering what some of the threads were about. Eventually I became absorbed in to the site and was able to remember past topics.

Newcomers cannot be expected to check back for years, but are often so naive that they have not even tried to find any answers for themselves.

I use the word naive in it's nicest way.

We have not had any nasty stuff on here for quite a long time, political stuff apart, and even that was mostly well intentioned.

I think I can speak for quite a lot of us when I say that posts on the line of "I have just bought a rod and reel etc and do not know how to connect the reel to the float" leave us feeling somewhat bewildered. Has the poster really got no idea that the line goes through the rod rings?

I admit to ignoring that one.

Take a look at BFW, there are threads on there that I cant make head or tale of, I read them but the cryptic remarks of "the in crowd" leave me bewildered, so I read but inwardly ignore. Actually that sort of posting is, in my opinion, out of place, and should be kept for emails.

I put a pic up recently hoping for some laughter/ insults/ ribaldry, anything! I think the Net is the ideal medium for this sort of thing, sadly for me it did not get the response I hoped for. OK let's be more specific, I was ignored by almost everyone, so what!! Nothing to get miffed about, carry on to the next topic!

Hiya,

Could it not be a bit more than just the forums cliquing up but the specific branches of angling?

Over the years I’ve went through all the disciplines, spent a few years Salmon fishing… now there is a clique if ever there was one, trout fishing wasn’t much better. I moved from that to coarse fishing, in general it was better but the specialised groups let it down badly. I have since moved back to Sea fishing where the problem is almost non existent.. unfortunately just like the fish stocks

Poledark moi humpy,,,, not so, i was just pointing out some thing,

I agree with you in that we can all ignore posts, but my point is,would a long standing member, and yes i will say again, one of the "in crowd"had got a better response to the appeal

As a have said before i dont care wether anybody replies to my posts.

As far as i can see this thread is about a "clique" i am giving my honest views on the subject,if i upset people so be it.

If people want to think i am being nasty, let them, but i can tell you i am not, as far as i am concerned i am speaking the truth.

I pick and choose as to what to reply to and i have chosen to reply to this thread,.

Nice to speak to you again poledark any way
