Judging by the colouration and shape I wouldn't be surprised if it ate Paella at one stage in its life................................. and this is why we no longer have an official British record :(

Budgie - why would you expect a Spanish transplant to have a different colour and shape than one that had grown up in a UK water?

Whatever the rights and wrongs of Wels being present in UK waters, this angler clearly was not targeting them and as Ben Weir said, did very well to land it on the tackle he was using.

 

......and in these days of media hype whenever a big fish is landed, this seemed a fairly balanced and straightforward account of what went on.

To me it doesn't really matter where it came from or what it eats. That's by the by.

 

That's a hell of a fish on 'light' tackle.
