Interesting that he also stated that he used a size 12 hook, but no reference to bait. I assume it was a boilie.

 

However, given the comments above perhaps it was a gambas pil pil.

The Kansas Blue catfish record (123 lbs) was caught on 4 lb line and a soft plastic jig by a guy crappie (perch) fishing. It is now certified (as best I know) but there was some question whether the fish was alive when captured. Maybe just bad press for the guy(?).

 

Big fish do draw attention.
