Hi Guys, thanks once again for all of your help. It has just decided to start working again.

I tried auto repair again and this time it said it was repairing a disc problem.

When it was finished it didn't work but went straight back into auto repair.

I did nothing much for 20 minutes and then said it was unable to repair.

At the bottom of the screen was a box to tick for more advanced info so I ticked it. It asked me to log on which I did and the computer re-booted and worked.

(I think it is evil spirits)

Now I am wondering what is going to happen when I switch off and try to reboot next time.

I am seriously thinking about getting another Mac but the Serif software I use only works in Windows so it would mean running a virtual windows program.

Open my computer

Right click the c drive

Choose tools

In error checking choose check now, tick both tick boxes.

It will schedule a full chkdsk /r on next reboot.

Let it do its work

See how it goes

Thanks again.

Just popped out and when I returned I was met with the blue screen again.

When I tried to boot up again I got the message to insert boot material and try again. It didn't seem to be recognising the HDD.

Just as a thought I opened the computer and checked the SATA cable connections. They seemed OK but I gave them a waggle and pushed them in nice and tight and tried again.

Booted up with no problem, so could it have been that?

I'm off to look at Macs. My wife has one that is over 12 years old and never any problems. I am getting to the point where the smugness may make me do something violent.

Never had as many IDE cables go wrong as I see sata ones.

And if it is sata cable then it can throw up a different blue screen code every time...from bad sectors just smart errors etc

Right pain in the rear!

Just out of interest, since I wiggled the SATA cable the computer has been fine. Boots up very quickly with no problems.

Had a PC in this very day with similar issues! Swapped sata cable and sorted it!

I tell you....they are the work of Satans own loins! Lol!

I've even had them go wrong in an iMac!
