I need a new Reel/Rod, Suggestions please

Can't go wrong with one of the cheaper Shimano reels or Okuma. Any 13 ft match (avoid power match) rods - Shakespeare or other mentioned here or if your budget runs to it Drennan make lovely rods - check fleabay for second hand ones they do pop up and will be fine.

Id like to spend a bit of money as i have come a cropper from cheap tackle before and dont want to go down that road again.

If you aren't averse to spending a few quid, the Drennan range of rods is very nice, if a bit pricey. I've bought four of them now, and they're all cracking rods.

What size is your budget, and is it just a rod and reel you need ?? You can go from £10 upwards for a 13' match rod and matching reel

It would be difficult to get one rod to cover all the target species you have in mind, but if I was restricted to just the one rod I would recommend a John Wilson Avon Rod

Remember I am a forked stick "cast and nap" guy. Not a cast and retreive. Probably just luck but I think they take more abusive handling.

Personally I would visit a local tackle shop, tell them the budget and try for 10% discount.
