Has float fishing becoming a dying art?

I've not fished for 12 years and have only just decided to take it up again as I now have more time and I really have missed it. All my life from catching my first ever fish I have float fished, I love the bobble and bite you get from a float, i always thought it takes a small amount of skill too. I love plumbing the depth and building up a visual of the bottom of the water. I've been a little worried that perhaps it is a dying art and I may have to learn something completely new so it's great to read this thread. I will go out next week on my first fishing trip in a decade with float rod and a box full of wagglers and really enjoy myself.

thats what it boils down to for me..i dont get the same thrill from hearing a buzzer go off or watching a quiver tip wobble about....theres nothing like watching a waggler twitch, the ripples moving away from it, then slightly sink down as a tentative nibble takes place, maybe a bob or two...then its under! great way to fish!

in my videos i regulary sit back and just watch the footage of the float bobbing and going under...makes me smile every time!

i use a boober alot for carp these days with just thw weight of the bait (meat or bread) to hold bottom....watching that get moved about is a joy! it bobs, twitches, rotates and drags a little then WHOOSH!! its like the barrel scene from Jaws!LOL
