Are you an old angler who has a beard...?

I have had one since it became a beard and not a semblance of one ,shaved it of for a VE night (50th anniversary of VE i should say) fancy dress party as i couldnt source a naval uniform (where beards are more common) so i had to use army attire where beards are far scarcer

Got wrecked that night took days to become human again

My mrs remarked i looked like a hamster so it went back on again

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

I have said this before, when it came up 3 or 4 years ago

Having a beard does not make a good angler.

Its the converse....

Good anglers do not waste time, energy or money on trivia - like shaving daily.

I had a beard in my younger days.

It traumatised the kids when I shaved it off (I think they were wondering what had happened to their old daddy).

Now I've retired, it's hard to find the time to shave. Down to 2 or 3 times a week.

But It's my lawn that seems to grow a beard mostly (I think that the neighbours may be organising for someone to have a word with me, though the local birdlife seems to appreciate the extra seeds, and the bees the dandelions).

I can't grow a beard. I can certainly grow a variety of hair from my face but it's always terribly untidy and I just look like a homeless junkie and it's started coming through white, even though my barnet is practically black. It just won't work.

beardy types do seem to ooze knowledge and authoritism when it comes to outdoor pursuits and activities

they seem to have an air ot authority about the subject they talk about as if they are more in tune with nature and the great outdoors

this may well be total poppy cocks but if a bearby weirdy tells my something that may be rubbish it sounds more beliefable then from a clean shaved fellow who by being cleaqn shaved may come across as more urban and so less qualified on the subject

its all down to looking the part

I'm with Vagabond. An ex-girlfriend half a lifetime ago suggested I grow a beard and I've never been clean-shaven since. In fact Peggy has never seen me without a beard. 5 minutes a day is about 2 and a half hours a month saved. I can think of plenty of things to do with those 2 and a half hours that are more fun than shaving!

Besides, a beard is also practical, which is possible why we evolved them in the first place. They protect us from the sun and keep us warm in the winter.

Especially us outdoors country folk, Azrael.

i'm 31 and have had a beard for 4 years or so...

Flat cap, woolly jumper, pipe and hip flask on a cold winters day and I could be forgive for looking much older though!

Better still, enhance the beard with a deerstalker hat, and people come up and ask questions such as "what bird is that?" "what bait is best for houting" and similar pearls of wisdom

Deerstalkers, like beards, save time - imagine how much time and mental energy is wasted by baseball-cap wearers wondering whether to have the peak facing to front or to rear.:headhurt:
