You Know It's Bad When The Phone Rings This Late

The phone just rang and I just knew it wouldn't be good news. As I ran down the stairs, I just hoped with all my heart that it was a drunk mate having a 'laugh'. Unfortunately, it was my sister.

 

I had a rather strange childhood.

 

My father left when I was a baby.

 

I then was adopted when my mum remarried by Derek and we lived as a family for many years.

 

They split up and, a few years later, mum remarried to Andy, whom I regard as my father.

 

I never fell out with Derek, we just drifted apart. My sister has lived her life with him as her father and, despite having a new family, he thought the world of her.

 

Derek has just been killed, hit by a car whilst trying to help another vehicle that was either in an accident, or broken down (details a bit patchy right now).

 

God bless you, Derek. You and your family didn't deserve this.

Just dawned on me that Derek is the dad I fished with all my childhood.
