Interesting link Phone. No the UK doesn't have this kind of document on it's statute books. Our laws tend to be specific to either England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.

Just following up on that, I guess the closest thing we have is the Habitats Directive. It's supposed to be a blanket legislation accross all of Europe, but of course it's application tends to be rather more selective than that.

Andy,

Looks like that would do the trick.

Edit: Ohh, I forgot my question. Is "river ownership" the same in the EU as it is in the UK. That "issue" of ownership is a real stumbling block. I mean, looks like it is what it is!

In my experience, it's unwise to try and prevent a citizen from navigating a river in France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Scotland, or any other country in the EU with the exception of England and Wales.

.

In England and Wales, it's permissable to be abusive to strangers, so long as you have landowners consent.

As far as the Habitats Directive is concerned, most countries in the EU generally try and avoid complliance with the content because it's inconvenient and it costs a hell of a lot of money..

So nothing ever changes.

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

free access to rivers is coming closer, the angling trust are getting worried that free access enjoyed by most of the world is getting closer, first Scotland now Wales. Dear canonist friends take part in the survey. :D I'll find the link as well.

Here ya go Andy: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/walesoutdooractivitytourismvisitor?dm_t=0,0,0,0,0

Angling Missing from Welsh Outdoor Survey

Dear friends,

We need your help to complete a 5 minute online questionnaire before the 20th of September please.

We have recently been alerted to a survey of outdoor activity in Wales that is being carried out by the Welsh Assembly Government which does not include angling as one of the activities. It is very important that the Government is made aware of the importance of fishing to the local economy at the moment, particularly as it is currently considering bringing in new legislation to introduce universal access for canoes to all rivers in Wales.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

barry,

I guess I'm the only one who read your EU link? Seems to me to clearly cover the subject.

"1. Provided that there is no satisfactory alternative and the derogation is not detrimental to the maintenance of the populations of the species concerned Member States may derogate from the provisions of Articles 12, 13, 14 and 15 (a) and (B):" ... "(e) to allow, under strictly supervised conditions, on a selective basis and to a limited extent, species listed in Annex IV by the competent authorities."

You, Andy, or someone else might want to explain it as you see it - - just so everyone is in agreement (although once again, I don't see how it could be any clearer).

Leon,

The Scottish Anglers National Association (SANA) claims that irresponsible boat-users are scaring away fish, subjecting anglers to verbal tirades and putting jobs at risk.

Not sure what's "subjecting the anglers" but I'd use "verbal tirades" if they scared my fish off.

gozzer,

I'm with ya - coming from the SANA no less. Who'da thunk it?
