Controller - marker ?

Still or moving water? I only ask because in moving water I reckon its a waste of time, too many variables, let your feeder go where nature intends.

Doesn't pulling tight when you are clipped up cause the feeder to empty in a hurry?

Leeds, if you are using the controller as a float (instead of a proper marker float) then it will work OK..as you say it might be dificult to see at distance.

Some of my controllers are bright red, and some are transparent pale green..in your case I would use the red one :D

Andrew, I sometimes use an "anchored" controller for keeping a surface bait in one place for hours on end and can see it quite easily .

Den

Thanks Poledark but Leeds ask a question on using a controller As a marker float! That why I said it wouldn't work but as an anchored controller yes it would work.

Growing old is inevitable but growing up is optional

You beat me to it Den! I was about to take my younger sibling to task on it! :D

Leeds you can easily make a controller or pike float into a marker float by just increasing its visibility,as Andrew quite rightly said one of the fall downs of a controller.Get a suitably coloured plastic dart flight and stick in to the top of either contoller or pike float.Black can also be a good visible choice as well as the normal oranges etc.

In fact I dont actually own a marker float! just use long pike floats or poly balls! But then again Im just a  Noddy, dont even own a single stainless steel bankstick!

Leeds as Den mentioned just anchor it using the bottom eye.

Or to make it more versatile set up a spare rod as follows- slide on a nice heavy lead 3ozs plus, slide on a rubber bead then tie the line to the eye on the bottom of the controller/marker/pike/sea float. This gives you a set up you can plumb the depth with, feature find and mark with.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Only on the anchored controller method. The set up I describe it doesnt matter.

You use it as follows- Cast out and wind the float down to the lead.Pay out a foot of line by hand at a time untill the float surfaces. This gives you the depth.By winding it down again and retrieving the whole lot a few feet you can repeat the process and build up a picture of the different depths therefore finding any features. If you wish to mark that feature or simply a spot you wish to cast to then simply close the bail arm of the reel once the float surfaces and leave it there! You got it? if not PM me and I will send a diagram.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
