Keep left unless overtaking - not rocket science!

 

The problem is that people who sit in lane 2 discourage others from using lane 1 because the hoggers won't let them out. So they hog too. It's a classic game theory example of where the best result comes from everyone playing by the rules, but individually benefit by cheating.

 

I would tell people they can have more lanes on their motorways when they learn to use the ones they've got.

I'd like someone to define clearly what a middle lane hog is. For example lane 1 on the M27 is frequently nose to tail full of HGVs heading from or to the ferries in Portsmouth. I'm damned if I am gon

A lot of motorways in France only have two lanes.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

So your driving along the M27 from Southampton to Portsmouth (or the other direction). Lane one is full of lorries,miles of them, heading to or from the ferries in Portsmouth. Do you weave in and out of all of them or do you stay in lane 2 until you pass the lot of them?

quite often i'm doing the m27. m3 a35

 

Ovious, if you are overtaking the lorries or any other vehicles in the slow mo lane you are in the overtaking lane correctly. Once the said line of slow moving has been passed you move into the slow lane, not rocket science.

 

If I wish to do this multiple times, mirror, signal, manoeuvre, what's the problem. I see very many middle lane hoggers who steering wheel appear to be stuck solid, or they don't realise there's a wheel in front of them that requires moving and the vehicle will go where directed, simples.
