The bodies of three people missing after a helicopter crash off Shetland have been recovered, police have said.

One person is still missing and Police Scotland confirmed 14 others have been rescued and are in hospital.

The Super Puma L2 helicopter crashed west of Sumburgh Airport at about 18:20 BST on Friday.

RNLI rescue co-ordinator Jim Nicholson said the helicopter - carrying workers from an oil rig - apparently suffered a "catastrophic loss of power".

 

So sad.

Terrible spent many hours flying on the supa puma aircraft when i worked offhsore my heart goes out to the familes sent a shiver down my spine when i saw it on the news i never forget back in 1992 i was offhore at the time working on the north alwyn platform it was blowing a near on force ten from the north snowing heavily it came over a chopper had ditched not to far from the north alwyn it was in the brent field it was shuttleing guys just a few hundered yards from the platform to the occomodation rig when it ditched in a heavy snow storm just seconds after taking off plus it was dark most of guys survived incredible in those terrible conditions with the intense cold and high seas at the time of the incident .

I think the aircraft stalled with the heavy snow trying to get lift after the take off i dont think they should have been flying in those condtions but where money is involed safety often takes a backseat.

and yet again it is the gearbox under suspicion, third major incident involving the gearbox on a super puma in the past few years, surely this has got to lead to loss of their certification and permanent grounding

Seems to be an occuring problem with these super pumas gearboxes failures something needs sorting and fast.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..
