Help ! XP wont shut down properly

I assumed this was because I fitted a USB hub, so I unchecked the "Allow the

computer to turn off this device to save power " box in device manager as

per MS knowledge base, but this did'nt work, neither did unplugging the new

hub & returning to how it was. Now I'm stuck. Also, the first time I

rebooted after this problem the machine found an error & performed a disk

check - took about 7 hrs!

Trouble is, on the same day I downloaded a couple of things (virus checker update, & new ISP dialler) so I can't pin it down to one thing.

Any ideas would be appreciated

I've narrowed it down to the new USB hub, just successfully shut down with it unplugged ( 3rd attempt)

Have'nt got Kazaa Craig, I do have winmx but have'nt used it for at least 2 months.

My problem now is how do I shut down properly with the hub connected, only got 2 ports on PC & about 5 peripherals all using USB so I need it if I'm to avoid another slipped disc !

Try http://www.windowsbbs.com/ and if a search won't turn up an answer, post the problem to the hardware section (rather than the XP section).
