What's gone wrong guys?

Quote: The rebound from 2012’s record low comes six years after the BBC reported that global warming would leave the Arctic ice-free in summer by 2013.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Looks like like global cooling to me ,another ice age due perhaps ? blame it on fridges being turned up to max during our blazing summer. Wind turbines running full tilt to fuel the fridges and freezers, effectively giant fans cooling the planet down. time to put the central heating on. :icecream:

I assume that is meant as a joke Phone.

(Just in case anyone is inclined to view it seriously, take it from a retired university lecturer on oceanography that the diagram is sheer, utter and complete rubbish!)

Yes Newt, better, although an over- simplification, but roughly conveys the right idea. A number of major currents are missing (eg Humboldt, Kuroshio)

The broad principle is that water is cooled at high latitudes and sinks, and flows towards the equator. To preserve continuity, warm surface water flows from the equator towards the poles.

Obviously the flow is constrained by the major land masses, and by the ocean floor topography

The currents are deflected by the spin of the earth about its axis (Coriolis Force), deflection being clockwise in N hemisphere, anticlockwise in S hemisphere, with the complication that the Coriolis Force is strong at high latitudes but zero at the Equator, so the deflections are greater at high latitudes.

The surface currents are also influenced by the prevailing winds, climatic conditions and seasonal changes. (like the monsoons, which actually reverse some currents in the Indian Ocean)

Even the above is an oversimplification !

BTW

I was one of the authors of "Ocean Circulation" Pergamon Press 1989 which was used as a textbook for university students - no doubt there are more modern texts by now, but the principles haven't changed. I was delighted to see a copy of "Ocean Circulation" in use at the oceanic research station of Macquarie Island when I visited in 1998 - Macquarie is as far as you can get from the UK without donning a space-suit.

Thanks for that Vagabond. The Coriolis effect is one of those things my brain just cannot grasp. The broad concept makes sense but when trying to get down to details, it's like trying to hold an eel with greasy hands.

I think one of the difficulties people have is that the concept seems at first sight to be counter-intuitive.

The Earth's surface is moving more slowly at high latitudes, yet the Coriolis Force is greater, whereas at the Equator, where the surface speed is greatest, the Coriolis effect is zero.
