Graphics Card Advice Please

Morning all.

My PC is about 7 years old now but still does everything I want and has been rock solid during that time except for the nvidia 8800GTX graphics card. The original died three years ago and I’ve since replaced it with two second hand ones but eventually they go the same way showing artefacts and then failing altogether. Googling shows that they are prone to overheating.

I’m going to replace the latest casualty with a new current card but I’m out of touch with PC components and don’t know which one to buy. All I need is the same performance as the GTX, I play Battlefield Vietnam a bit and watch films so it needs to be reasonably capable but not the latest hot poop. The processor is Intel Core2 Duo E6850.

Any ideas?

On a modern card your looking maybe at a gts250 or similar.

If you ever do fancy something a bit more strenuous then the 550 range is adequate for most stuff but can drop a but short on higher end games and resolutions.

A 550ti is nearly double power

Many thanks Kiri. I needed to get something pretty quickly so ended up in Maplins and came out with a GTX650 which'll do the job. PC world were useless, the bloke on the help desk knew nothing and basically left me to look at the card specs on the packaging.
