had the naughty windows problems so i bought a new hard disk ,trouble is i bought a pig in a poke its a green version disk ,although its sold as a desktop drive its designed as a storage drive for PVRs etc.

i didnt notice in my haste to install ,all works fine but running HDD tune to see the hard drive temperatures i notice the drive has no cache enabled (it should be 64MB) ,how do i get around this problem or does my PVR get a new disk and i have to fork out for a real one?

Fundamentally there is no difference other than firmware and build quality....they are designed to run cooler and be a but less prone to hiccups.

But the cache appears not to be enabled nor any of the other bits like turning of the noise dooda so it runs faster etc,i'v browsed the wd site but its not reported there.

Do you know any software that tests the cache perhaps mine is pre green drives?

You could try seatools, can't recall if it works on drives other than seagate, maxtor or Samsung though.

Strange i have removed the green lable drive and put in a blue version which should be fine but the cache is still not there (the others are) and the noise and advanced features missing also ,either hdd tune is silly or i am missing something somewhere
