Another summer season ends.

I was out on Sunday with a lure rod, hoping to chase the chub in the shallows but after a chilly week, the river was distinctly cold.

I only fished for about three hours but in that time, I had a total of just three bites. One was certainly a chub but I failed to hook up. The others were a nice little perch that bumped the lure on one cast and got himself hooked on the next.

It was a lovely day out but hard work.

 

I still have the option of spinning for chub but I'll have to fish the Stour for them now because they seem to retain their predatory nature much more of the time in the little river - presumably because they take food where they find it.

 

If I get out next weekend, it will be bait fishing and it'll be in the slightly deeper, slower sections that the fish will have dropped back into - unless anyone has figured an effective way to target chub with lures in deeper, colder water.
