I have access to a farmers pool that is 100mx20m going from 10 ft down to inches deep with an island towards the deep end.

This pool has a good head of small Roach, Perch and skimmer bream. It also has a few carp up to 15/20lb max.

 

The pool is stream fed from a very well know midlands pool and was dug out many years ago by the farmer. Im not sure if it was ever stocked or the fish got there by natural means but I would love to stock this pool with some more Tench, Bream and carp, What would be the proceeder for this and likely costs?.

 

Is this feasable on a small budget?

I am interested in what is the motivation to change it ans add the extra stock?

With a pond this small - 2/5 of an acre - adding more fish is the last thing you want to do. A water this small won't support much more than 200-300lb of fish total. It's largely a waste of money to add more fish. Bream very rarely grow big in very small waters and you'd be better off taking as many bream OUT of the water as possible; same applies for roach. Do that and you may get much bigger roach and less chance of an overpopulation of skimmers. About the only fish I would add is maybe 100 very small tench of 4-6" but certainly no more carp or bream. Managed well you could have a nice fishery but being bold enough to remove fish is key to getting there.

Ben,

 

Well that really bad idea has passed (Ihope) we can get on with bait and tactics for catching what's there. If you insist, go to the EA, they will help. Don't just toss a bucket of fry into the pond and think nature will "balance" things out. Won't happen.

The only thing I would add to such a small water that appears to have plenty of stunted fish, is perch. A few dozen perch would soon sort out the smaller of the roach etc.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John
