no comment, don't wish to be a bore. :D

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

I have a question from this thread. Did Hardy and Grey seperate when Pure Fishing bought the "Hardy" brand? Can you still buy Gray fishing rods that are not part of a conglomarate(sp)?

gozzer,

Aside from getting their name in front of the angling public by tooting their own horn (self-serving) and claiming to have having virtues, beliefs, principles, while making a profit isn't hypocritical if its true (so - what are they lying about?) all the while letting the public know their intentions (some call it propaganda, I call it marketing) - SO - what's wrong with any of it? You are being very cynical and contemptious for what, appears to me to be a quite benevolent and charitable gesture.

I guess you and I don't need all the options and multitude of products provided by Pure Fishing to younger and more skilled anglers today (when was the last time you checked out what brands were under the Pure Fishing umbrella?). I guess if everyone picked up their trash like you and me it wouldn't be necessary to have environmental project showing a good side to angling. Maybe you would rather the government "pickup the garbage" rather than accept the gift from profits of a private company and caring volunteers.

Need I mention the more than $1,000,000 in secondary prizes and sponsorships over your way? (In the US the budget is closer to $7,000,000 annually). Who wouldn't be proud to "win a gift" if for no other reason than the "show off" factor. Ohh - and as both mass marketers and "specialist" manufacturers they are the primary force in keeping costs down if an angler isn't rich or just a beginner. Who needs beginners anyway. They just clutter up the banks with loud music and to much of the wrong kind of ground bait.

Hi there phone, The "self serving" bit is obvious, as you've noticed. I have no quarms with the company, but to suggest that any blatant advertising gimmick is based on benevolence and charity, is a bit naive. It's all about spreading the 'brand name'. If they didn't expect a decent return on their 'investment', then I very much doubt it would happen. I'm not condemning it, just telling it like I see it.

The hypocrisy part is the "conservation", that the Angling Trust purport to back. Conservation of 'fisheries' yes, of 'fishing' yes, of fish? doubtful, unless they are of a type that will put more 'bums on the bank', and more £/$ in the coffers. I am of course talking about your beloved carp, as well as several other non native species. It's bad enough in the States and Australia, where the conducive climate has made the introduction of a few, into an environmental nightmare. In the UK we don't have that climate, so the stupid, greedy, and thoughtless amongst us, have decided to mass stock to compensate, with scant regard to any negative effect on the already established ecological balance. This is/has been supported by both the A Tr, and our 'guardians of our environment', the EA.

It's simple equation, and one I think you approve of, More fish = more rods = more money, and stuff anything else!

We agree on some things though. Yes I am cynical, have been for many years. Yes, I do feel contempt for those who think that financial gain is more important than anything else. There are often things lost during the pursuit of money, that can never, ever be truly replaced.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

John.

Wasn't going to comment as some will consider that i'm biased. Chasing money as opposed to anglers, I can see that this applies to the example below. Yet this guy is responsible for a successful fishery, who is truly unhappy, I make no apologies for copy and pasting it from the trusts face book page:

Bill Ward That is all supposition Olly. From the very beginnings of the Trust, Mike Heylin, me and others were agreed that a levy on the licence was the only way forward to represent and fight the good fight on behalf of all anglers, and the only way to raise the necessary funding to do so. That item would therefore remain on the agenda and vigorously pursued. The fact is there are no facts on the matter and therein lies the problem.

However the Trust was launched prematurely and anglers got wind of the ridiculous amount of money that was allegedly to be spent on salaries and therefore refused their support. I have a draft document that even states the budget forecast salary spend. The Trust was failing as soon as it opened its doors for business. That was and still is unforgivable. The executive was also totally disconnected from grass-root anglers, entirely proven by the failure of the previous organisations that carried forward their declining membership as a basis upon which they 'hoped' to build the trust.

This red-herring of being in bed with a government agency and at the beck and call of the EA is nonsense. If we were to pursue Option 2 instead of sticking with the status quo we would be going a long way to at last giving anglers 'their' organisation. The problem is the lack of will to pursue the licence levy solution as a result of old school petty politics and the wrong people heading up the trust. For the price of a flat rate £10 or even the lesser amount of £5 a year, the Angling Trust would have over a 1,000,000 members and the millions of pounds needed to support the necessary infrastructure and facilities required, as well as having an executive truly answerable to all of us for the first time in Angling's history.

Until that happens the Angling Trust is conning anglers into believing it is the solution. It isn't! We have been misled by an executive that has let us all down since day one simply because they failed to listen, failed to act and failed in their honesty; never-mind failing to give angling anywhere what it truly needed for the future.

I could go on, but the figure of 15000 tells us just how unsuccessful the Angling Trust has been in attracting interest. ECHO failed at a time when there were 92000 carp anglers out there. Therefore, what chance has the Angling Trust got without the support from anglers of all disciplines? In my opinion - none! Too little, too late.

We had a great opportunity to change the face of angling and how we access all areas for the better, but more importantly for the future. There is still a window of opportunity, but it grows ever smaller by the year and may finally cause the demise of a pastime that I love. We need to upset the apple-cart, learn quickly from our mistakes and start again. There is still time, but I won't join for the privilege of belonging to a Trust that the vast majority of anglers I meet aren't even aware of and care about even less.

Barry, this is the first time I can recall that you've posted a reasoned argument about the Angling Trust rather than knocking whatever it does, good or bad, because you don't agree with how it's handled recreational sea angling.

I'd suggest you'd be listened to far more if you continue in this vein. I suspect that a lot of forum members have simply ignored all your postings about the Angling Trust for some time. If this is so they won't be reading this!

it's not my writings Steve it's from a guy who runs a successful carp fishing enterprise. I care not if people wish to ignore what I write about the trust, the reason being is that all I have written I am happy with. They have failed as far as i'm concerned, being selfish and speaking as a sea angler, they have given nothing of any benefit for sea angling and continue to give nothing apart from restriction. They do not communicate with the sea angler nor do they ask the sea angler for a mandate and it continues. They are working on restricting the bass anglers including myself and the commercial sector while ignoring, doing nothing at the top end, they are meeting defra next month with regards to more rsa management, un-warranted or un-necessary again without mandate. This is part of the 2012 cefas steering group meetings that the trust have not communicated once with the rsa, yet they are going to a meeting without telling the rsa anything what so ever about. So just these few lines indicates strongly failings by themselves who claim to represent all. So if my writings or wailings even are classed as either boring or perverse I will live with them as they are minor in comparison. thanks being candid Steve.

Ah, I take it back! I misread your post. So those words weren't yours. And your latest words continue in the same old vein.

Oh well, wishful thinking. It'll make sure I'm more careful next time.
