On one hand, I'm rather happy that my neighbour recently cut down his leylandii which would have hit the house if they came down. Conversely, the lack of the trees means that the roof of my carport now has nothing between it and the mountains of Wales - lets hope it survives.

If nature "knew" things i would say we were in for a decent hard winter for a change ,the trees are groaning with fruit and it must be the biggest crop of acorns i have ever seen you could scate to the pond on them they are so thick on the ground.

It's a 'mast year' for oaks Chesters.

Every few years they co-ordinate to produce a massive crop.

That way, the creatures that eat their fruits/nuts are presented with a surplus that they just can't eliminate, meaning that many will be able to germinate.

It's a way they have evolved of overcoming overgrazing and continuing their existence as a plant species.

Nature can be very clever.

No it's just the cheepo corrogated stuff and it's a pain to get to. In fairness, I've yet to have an issue with it.

We shall just have to see.

We are expecting our first freeze of the year - at least a month too early.

How about you folks send some warm this way and include some wind with it. That way we'll both have better weather.

We could send you a few cans of baked beans, then you can make your own wind.
