Just back from morning woodland walk, prolonged by collecting about 2 kg of chestnuts. The overnight gale had brought all the ripe ones down.

 

Roast beef, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pud, plus sprouts (down, chesters) and baked chestnuts for Sunday High Tea. Splendid !

 

Scrumped a few recently fallen "feral" apples also.

 

It's an ill wind.........

Yay sprouts ,no open fire here and its the only way to cook chestnuts properly ,they dont microwave well and i certainly wouldnt waste gas on them.

Takes me back to when we had our geese ,the male loved them and the noise of a bunch hitting the deck had him rushing up the garden ,dab hand at extracting them but the pins on the empty ones must have been annoying until i raked them up

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

Must do a longer run to work this week and go via the spot where there are four or five trees. If they're big, they're worth having and preparing for the freezer. If not, I'll stick to the vacuum packed ones to go with my sprouts, smoked bacon and honey.
