Fish being removed from a venue because carp anglers regard them as a nuisance really does show how bonkers sections of this sport have become.

Checking 53 licences at BH just involves ticking boxes - the likelihood of a defaulter there is miniscule.A gentle stroll around the lakes, minimum paperwork, little confrontation, and "53 licences checked" looks good on your report. Checking natural waters may mean a long walk/scramble, few anglers encountered, likelihood of confrontation if illegal fishers are encountered, lots of paperwork if a prosecution is made, and at the end of the day your report says "2 licences checked, I case of no licence, who refused to give his name and address (his three mates ran away). Checked in at local A &E to have facial injuries attended to" Not defending anyone Dales, but human nature being what it is..........

That's very true but working in the public sector the NHS, I do find government agencies endless obsession with box ticking, meeting quotas a little annoying. If it is not the best use of resources to do licence checks then don't do it. It's that old chestnut of being seen to be doing something rather then tackling the real problem.

OK so I know it's taboo amongst anglers to complain about having to buy a rod license but after a few years out of the sport and in my first proper year back I'm struggling to see what it's for these days.

 

The same could be said about road Tax - costs us a packet yet feels like we are driving down a road hit by a B52 strike everytime we go out.

Its a tax - simple as, some of it pays the EA's wages and costs, some gets put back into fishing, the rest gets used /wasted else where. On a positive note it gives Coarse fishing a voice, be it not very loud.

Refusing to allow a chap to buy a fishing licence if they are behind on child maintenance payments is a bit below the belt.

Rudd, all the revenue gained through fishing licences is spent on our waterways in one form or another, even though it seems that game anglers gain a greater percentage of the help, and the south far more than the north....
