Printer power problem

Recommended Posts

I have a Canon MP610 multi function printer which is getting on a bit now.

Went to use it and no power. Will not power up at all.

I have tried and checked the normal things. There is a removable power adapter where the power lead plugs in. Took that out fiddled around and replaced it.

Repairing it or replacing it is almost certainly not cost effective so any suggestions for obvious things to look at before it is junked

Thanks

Have you googled the problem

Are there any fuses

Checked the user guide, which you may find online

Thanks WNB tried those. There is no onboard fuse.

The only answer on Google was to remove the onboard power adapter, unplug it, wait, then plug it back in.

Didn't work.

I fear it's junk.

The power unit on those are a pain. To be honest they can be replaced round about £30:

Just a question of it it's worth the investment

It has been a good printer and has lasted well. If I could get it up and running for £30,00 I would be tempted.

On the other hand I can get a new Canon that is probably better for around £50.00

It just seems an awful wast to junk all of that technology for the sake of a cheap power supply.

Thanks Kiri

True, but then if you've had it awhile the charge drains will be getting full and once that happens it's either a significant cost and job to replace them or the printer is at it end of life cycle anyway!

Printing tech on the canons has changed considerably...if you don't need the scanner side of things then a standard printer will only set you back £30

If you have a multimeter its just a case of measuring the output ,or if it says on the psu what it is a suitable bulb from positive to negative will do the same with care ofcourse.

Look closely at the psu some have a fuse within ,if its got screws its a doddle but a lot are glued together and unless your tight like me cutting them open not an option.

Some are simple psu,s with a single voltage anything with the same output in volts and amps and the same connector will do ,more amps is fine ,less may not have enough power to move the mechanism but will light up the lights.

Genarally if its a simple push in connector its positive in the middle neg on the outside but not always but it usually lets you know on the psu body what is what

A photo of the psu lable and connector could get you leads
