Anti-spam software

Been using MacAfee Spamkiller for last 2 days, on a free trial. Seems very slow in operation and sometimes lets spam through. I suspect that most of these packages might have these problems but has anyone got any other suggestions?

 

Freeware would be good, obviously.

I'm with you on this one Jim, SPAM cleaners should be free as far as I am concerned. I have tried numerous ones over the years and as yet I have not found any one that works effectively. I have even gone as far as reading the e-mail headers and complaining to the originators isp...with little or no joy.

 

Leon provided a good link the other day to something called vetomail that checks if the mail is coming from a genuine e-mail addy, but again it costs $2 a month to run.. :mad:

 

I am not entirely sure that there is something that will stop it all completely, rather a combination of various methods would I think be the way to go. I've recently reformatted so I will be looking into this again, and trying several of the free programs out there.

 

It would be interesting to see what others do, or what combinations people use to help cut down on this rot.

I like Mailwasher as well as any I've tried and better than most.

you dont need any now the eec have made it illegal there wont be any ,after all if mr blair trusts them and desperatly wants them to take charge of europe (and us) then we should trust blair and the eec in sending us the software to help catch these "illegal" spammers infact resend them to the head office in brussels to show that their law is working

Mailwasher is the ideal answer as far as I'm concerned. It's so good that I'm even considering sending the guy some money for it - and that is unheard of!

where do you send your spam to when you want to report it to the authoritys or the new eec council

bearing in mind most of the spam i get originates in america, :mad: also the fact that britain is the only euro country that complies with euro legislation i'm not expecting a big drop in spam :mad: :mad: :mad:

Thanks for all the help. Have installed Mailwasher; it seems to need quite a bit of manual input to setup and isn't as intuitive as Spamkiller but I'll run it for a week or two and see how it performs. Any tips on tuning the blacklists, Newt?
