Unreliable load of s**t !

Recommended Posts

I've got a new PC on order but would like to fix the old one for my daughter.

Problem: Switch on PC and monitor and immediately the monitor switches to stand-by mode and won't stay on. I've checked all connections and tried connecting another monitor but the same thing happens.

Anyone have any ideas on where to start looking for the problem?

Thanks

A chap at work is telling me that he is getting a message that a jumper is disconnected on startup. At a guess, I would think he has burnt out something on the motherboard!

Anthony,

when you first switch on the pc, do you get any text at all?

Does it beep a couple of times, and then switch the monitor to standby?

If so, it sounds like the graphics card is nadged!

Try reseating it in its motherboard slot, and if that doesnt work it looks like it wants replacing. you can get a cheapy one for about 30 quid.
