spinning for perch

I've caught quite a few perch spinning in the canal, but have been very unsuccessful in lakes. For what it's worth my most successful lure has been a Mepps Aglia Fire-Tiger No 3, but most people in my area seem to be into plastics nowadays.

The received wisdom used to be that when temperatures dropped the perch would move into the deepest parts of the lake, but in the only gravel pit in our club where they seriously fish for perch they tell me that, even in winter, they are gathered very close to the edge tight to bushes etc. The only 2 pounder I had from this lake was in the spring on maggot, 3' from the edge.

Anyway, good luck!

I use soft shads by savage gear , soft 4play lures work really good in the smaller sizes with a 6g jig hook , depending on how the lake bottom is I let settle to the bottom and bounce it through the water colum , just keep going around till you locate then

Likewise, I've had hundreds of canal perch on lures (spinners and very small plugs) but I've never done consistently well on lakes.

I'd probably be inclined to try the dropshotting thing to fish just off bottom and dead slow but there are very few opportunities to give it a go around here.
