My daughter PC has started running very slowly. Takes a long time to load up / close down or switch between programs.

any quick fix to try?

She is running Windows 7 with 4G of ram

same as usual to start with:

download and run ccleaner

download and run malwarebytes

download and run this:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/20359976/Roguefix_3.008.bat (right click and run as administrator from desktop)

 

with all that done:

open ccleaner and goto TOOLS> STARTUP

look down the list and double check that everything you have starting up is something you need. if it isnt then highlight and disable it. restart; if everything starts ok, then go back to that list and delete the relevant disabled items from the list.

you might need to search online to get a understanding of the files that are opening up. it will be full of things like printer drivers, volume controls, anti virus, skype etc

just figure out what you dont need at startup..for instance do you need Skype to auto start when you turn your pc on? if not, delete it from the list and just run it manually when you need to...etc etc

 

if that doesnt speed it up then your looking at more drastic stuff but see how you go with that little lot first!
