Dell are doing some very good deals at the moment and their machines are good. Stay well away from Time / Tidy machines. I made the mistake once. As for scanners, i use a Nikon Pro Scan IV. Scans negatives and slides briliantly. Mono and colour. Also can scan 6 negs at once. Very usefull.

Best regards

is it just the usb cable your reffering to (connects scanner to pc) if so £15.95 is a rip off as was mentioned look around but be carefull although the pc end will be always the same the scanner end may be slightly different

Yes Judy, As Newt says 'clunky' means a bit simple without the bells & whistles some others would like (but you would not miss).

£15 for a USB lead is a complete rip off - I saw the '£2 tools' man on my local market even flogs 'em now & even Argos do them for a tenner! (you will need a USB A-B lead) but do check if it's included or not (they always were but times change).

Do you have any other USB devices on your PC? I know you have W98 but some earlier W98 ish PC's did not have USB ports or needed a motherboard software change to get them working.

Jealousy: totally irrational anger directed at people who happen to be richer, prettier, thinner, cleverer and more successful than you are.

Judy

I bought a Canon Canoscan 3200F from Simply last month, came with USB cable and decent easy to use software that automatically does everything for you.

Just have to press the appropriate button, scan, copy, file, e-mail, it opens the software and auto crops the scan.

Also came with a slide scanning thingy.
