Lenovo used to be IBM laptops, and we used them at work for some time as thinkpads and were then very reliable. I had a look on the site and the prices seem very competative.

Found this one with a Google search

Method 1:

If you connected a second drive or any external drive to your PC (a SSD or HDD) the upgrade will fail if the second (original) drive is not disconnected. Just remove the secondary drive and all external drive, reboot and try installing the Windows 8.1 update.

Method 2:

If you do not have any external drive connected to your PC, boot the computer in a clean boot state and then try to install and check. Booting the computer in a clean boot state uses a minimal set of drivers and start-up programs. A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Win 8 I have it on a new Laptop I paid 499 Euros for and the laptop VERY nearly went in the bin second day. Got myself a nearly new double something from a USA site for 34 $ postage and VERY little money!! Believe you me. BUT the ruddy cursor moves by itself?BUT at that price it's better than 8.1 and it is running seven..... Nuff sed

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))

sorry but at the end of the day you can boot direct to desktop mode in 8.1.

after that, apart from the charm bar and a couple of other easy to use features your running something almost exactly like windows 7.....

sure you have to learn to use the app interface if you want to..but in real terms there is no reason to ever use the app interface at all

just don't understand the knee jerk reaction to it at all...really don't.

each to their own though.

why not just go back to windows xp?? seems MS are going to keep it alive til 2015 now anyway!!

think ive still got some windows 3.1 disks floating about.....fancy them as well? LOL!
