"Enbedded" virus ?

Cranfield

Recommended Posts

An AVG Scan last night reported that I have 3 "enbedded" virii in my archive.

Norton has never mentioned these.

Are they a problem ?

Could they be old virii, that Norton has quarantined in a file in the archive (which is why it never mentions it) ?

There is nothing in the Norton Quarantine file, I should have looked there first. Doh !

The AVG report states, " selected object is located inside the archive and cannot be healed".

The detail on the scan says,

"C:Document and SettingsBrian.ipi_cachejar1.0cla......

Virus identified Java/ByteVerify Infected Imbedded Object".

Thanks for the link that is very useful.

How do you find the files ?

It says, "just browse to the directory".

Also, I can't seem to be able to "turn off" System Restore.

For turning on and off System Restore, see here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...src=sec_doc_nam

Browsing to the directory: Using Windows Explorer, click on "My Computer", then your "C" drive, then on "Documents and Settings", then on "Brian", etc.

Or you could try this first:

From the Start button, click Settings > Control Panel

In the Control Panel, open the "Java Plug-in Control Panel"

Select the Cache Tab

Click the Clear button inside the Cache Tab, which will clear your JRE cache directory

Cheers

Ian.

Thank you very much.

I have found a file that has the same full title as the one identified by AVG and I have deleted it.

I have also copied all the links given to me for future reference, especially the AVG Forum.
