Recommended Posts

Got back to my mate only to find he or his WIFE to be honest has fried the cpu on his PC!!

He ahs obtained a replacement BUT he is telling me that he is faced with LOADS of options when he switches on the m/c?? I have never seen this before?? But I have usually fitted the same cpu back!! Does anyone have any idea of what to expect before I plug the machine in please?? OR should I just relegate the PC to the repair shop??

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))

Hmmm....Fried CPU - how did that happen?

Have you replaced the processor inside or the base unit itself (many people mix these up - it is always wise to clarify).

If it's the processor then really it shouldn't make a great deal of difference. Virtually all mobo's self configure processors these days. What you might have is a BIOS warning that the configuration has changed, in which case you are usually presented with options to:

Enter the BIOS and configure the processor manually.

or

Accept the defaults (most PC's I've seen or worked with it's F1 to do this).

Your mobo should have a BIOS manual should you need to configure the CPU manually. IF it doens't if you can find the make (usually printed on the board), I'll find one for you.

Hiya you 2!! Ian first!! Sorry I forgot about the bloody trip mate!! But Rob never got back to me!! All I acn tell you is theer are a couple of shops about. One is in Chateau Gontier on the right bank above the bridge and one shop in Segre which is in the shops near the Mitsubishi garage. It's a BIG garage!!

Ian, thanks for that mate!! It is the cpu and the problem was the fan on the cpu whcih went down!! Mate replaced the fan on the PSU and then realised what the problem was when his missus had spent ALL night onit and he came home. Went something like "Waht's that bloody awful smell love?? Have you burnt something agai..........AW NO!! I TOLD OUR ..... TO TELL YOU NOT TO GO ON THE COMPUTER!!" Or words to that effect!! But I have the box now and so will have a look later!!

But seriously thanks very much!!
