Thatcher v The Miners

Recommended Posts

It's hard to blame Scargill or Thatcher. Wilson and Castle completely capitulated to the previous generation of miners leaders. Heath lacked the balls to take them on and then had his hands tied by the impact of the OPEC reaction to the Yom Kipur war Wilson as PM was once again a damp cloth and finally, Thatcher got the job of dealing with a problem that would never have existed had the national coal board been broken up and the mines privateised decades before.

Just a thought... this was written over a hundred years ago:

Oh, it's in the evening after dark
That the blackleg miner goes to work
With his moleskin pants and dirty shirt
There goes the blackleg miner

Oh, he takes his pick and down he goes,
To hew the coal that lies below
There's not a woman in this town row
Would look at the blackleg miner

Oh, it's in the evening after dark
That the blackleg miner goes to work
With his moleskin pants and dirty shirt
There goes the blackleg miner

Oh, Delaval is a terrible place
They rub wet clay in the blackleg's face
Around the pit they run a footrace
To catch the blackleg miner
And don't go near the Seghill mine
Across the top they've stretched a line
To catch the throat, and break the spine
Of the dirty blackleg miner

It's in the evening after dark
That the blackleg miner goes to work
With his moleskin pants and dirty shirt
There goes the blackleg miner

They take his picks and duds as well
And hurl them down the pit of Hell
So off you go, and fare thee well
You dirty blackleg miner
So join the Union while you may
Don't wait 'til your dying day
For that may not be far away
You dirty blackleg miner

It's in the evening after dark
That the blackleg miner goes to work
With his moleskin pants and dirty shirt
There goes the blackleg miner

It's in the evening after dark
The blackleg miner goes to work
His moleskin pants and dirty shirt
There goes the blackleg miner

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Andrew, you should have called this thread, 'Thatcher v Scargill'. Most of the miners I knew, just wanted decent pay and conditions, for a days pay. The dispute was between Thatcher, (through her hatchet man, Macgregor), and the Union leaders. The miners were mostly just pawns in a power struggle, that ruined lives, families, and whole communities.

I shake my head when I hear of Thatcher, 'breaking the Unions'. The Union membership was made up of just ordinary working people. So what they are really saying is, 'Thatcher broke the working public'. Much nearer to the truth in my opinion.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John
