winter so mild , still using summer methods for catching

due to this very mild winter i am still catching with methods that should of ended months ago

spinning with mepps is still getting great results in my local pond , even brown trout are grabbing the spinner as i fish for other species.

only this morning i saw trout rising for flies ( in mid jan ), almost unheard of.

i have had pike chasing my lure as if it were a hot august afternoon. , roach are still in shoals in the shallows , minnows are also in large groups, what is going on ?

people opposite were fishing with just t shirts .

the seasons are strange just now , will the really cold snap come, who knows ?

anyone else on here noticing similar things

I was sitting on the front step earlier today and there were loads of airborne insects. Plants that should be dormant are flowering happily.

Last time at the vegetable plot, a couple of weeks since (I'm confined to base with a torn achilles tendon, and yes, it's as painful as it sounds!) the guard roses (nobody climbs over a rose bush, if they have any sense) are still pushing flower buds out.

There's an article on the BBC news site showing a conspicuous absence of sunspot and solar flare activity. It's suggested that the reduction in solar output may result in the sort of winters that saw the Thames freeze over, so enjoy it while it lasts. :)

It's funny isn't it the Daily Mail had had "winter freeze" or "mighty blizzards" type headlines half a dozen times so far this winter. I've only had to defrost the car twice so far this winter!

I've fished the Thames when it was frozen over, I had a load of perch! No worries about the cold here!

Fished a biggish still water on top of the pennies yesterday. I'm sure I saw some Penguins. Might have another go up there in July as its meant to be nice when the snowdrops are flowering in between the melting snow. :cold:

In our courtyard garden we still have geraniums in flower, strawberry plants fruiting and roses still coming into bud, very strange.

Smile they said life could get worse, I did and it was

The snow drops and hellibores have been in flower from before Christmas in my garden and the tree ferns are still bright leaved with out a hint of frost damage but then again London is a little heat island.

From a fishing point of view what worrys me about the mild spell is the effect it is having on the weed in waters. On both rivers and still waters I am still bringing in plenty of weed some with new growth on it, we need a long cold spell to reduce the weed. I am sure we will get a cold spell at some point but whether it will be sufficently harsh to have a major effect on weed and various nasty potential bugs, viruses etc I just dont know. Chances are winter will come with a vengence at some point, just hope it is sooner rather then later.

Certainly not warm round here froze last night and temp's probably won't get above 6 today...not exactly good temp's to have any naked days. Foxes have started annoying the dogs as always this time of year come rain or snow....same as usual.

Allways the same, if it's not frozen over everywhere everyone says something strange is going on, if it's frozen or snowing there's am ice age comin', just a normal winter to me.

A bit weird in this neck of the woods too. So far, we've missed most of the weather that seems to have hammered the rest of the country, particularly the recent heavy rains and flooding. Below zero last night, heavy frost this morning and predicted 0 - 1 degrees most of the day today. Bright blue sky and sunshine through the window right now, and I'm looking at cherry blossom across the road ... another one in the village has been in full bloom since early December!

A heavy frost here this morning and ice on the roads, but the daytime temperatures have averaged 6-8 degrees over the winter so far, with quite a few days creeping into double figures. Of course we've had the floods here too (the Thames is still over its banks in a lot of places). I don't see any signs of a proper cold snap coming and to be honest after last year's arctic winter I can't say I'm disappointed!

It's been a very funny year weather-wise and the fishing has been correspondingly odd. I'm hoping the rivers will return to a decent form for the last few weeks of the season, but they may well not. Even if they do, I expect the fish will be in poor condition. I think the end of season bonanza will have to wait for another year.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music
