yesterday morning i got up early and decided to nip up to my local commercial to do a quick session for my blog about winter carping on commercials, travelling light and small amounts of baits etc.

this was ruined immediately when i had a man stand behind me and try to tell me how to fish and i simply couldnt get him to go away. i listened to about half an hour of nonsense about how carp dont feed in winter, and how i wasnt going to catch anything, but at the same time as telling me i wouldnt get bites he seemed to feel to need to tell me every time i got a line bite or the tip moved which i find annoying enough as it is. he then proceeded to go on to give me the worst guide to fishing rivers i have ever heard! i soon realised the reason i had stopped fishing matches and commercials and moved over to the rivers and natural waters, you simply cannot fish in piece on commercials! It seems that people walk around and if your young or dont have much gear with you they automatically assume you're clueless and that you want there advice.

dont get me wrong i dont mind people offering advice on a water or walking around asking how you are doing but some people just simply dont know when to go away!

what are other peoples views on this and do you have any stories of similar situations?

During my involvement in running a club days I soon learnt that some people go angling to catch fish but an awfull lot go to socialise.

When I say a lot I mean it, along with pleasure anglers you can add in match men and Carp anglers who tend to fish in pairs.

To get rid of unwanted guests the simple way is to politely ask them to move on.

Some people are alive only because it is illegal to shoot them.

Did you try something direct like, " Please shut up and leave me alone"?

I,m afraid every water seems to have them, the local know it all. I tried match fishing in my younger days but I couldn't cope with the bull **** spoken on the coach or the bankside. Seemed to me it was all about the talk rather than the do!

Mind you carp fishing is much the same, full of complicated rubbish that just isnt required. If you think about it only the anglers make fishing complicated, the fish still treat it all as real simple. Best advice is to just humour them and let your catches do the talking.

(If you think about it only the anglers make fishing complicated) yes i have to agree i was fishing in a year or so back on a carp lake in norfolk when the local idiot came around the lake to tell me that a guy a few pegs away wouldnt get a bite because he was using the wrong bite alarms! utter rubbish, its whats in the water that does the work and ive been out before and used the new fangled carp rigs and had a bad day and then set a normal running leger rig up with a cube of meat and had bites instantly. a lot of the time i think theres to much on the line nowadays such as rig tubing etc and un-needed swivels. with rigs ive always been taught that the more simple and sensative the better!

Sounds like someone i know but avoid ,so skilled he can say the same rubbish four different ways in one sentence ,even more annoying he carries on from the exact same word if you say something when he eventually draws breath
