For charity & forum honour

Just another of my crazy ideas, but I think this one has merit. An annual match by 12 man / woman teams from up to 10 fishing forums. Fishing a RIVER for the honour of their forum & a trophy, while raising money for charity. So how many ( freshwater) forums can you both think of? ( I'll be doing a search tomorrow)

Entry £25 p/ p or £300 team ( Full entry = £3,000)

On the day

Registration starts @ 08.15

draw starts @ 08.30 - 09.45

On peg from 08.45 - 10.00

Fish from 10.30 - 4.30

Weigh-in from 4.35 - 05.15 ( 3 sets of scales, weighing 1/3 entry or 40 pegs each)

Presentation from 5.30 - 6.00

Prize fund Charity fund

Team best weight £500 £1,350

2nd £300

3rd £200

Best individual £300

2nd £200

3rd £100

Best fish £ 50

£1,650

I even fancy having the first one one the Fens, saw a club water there with 180 pegs marked out & bank-side parking.Mind you the twist will be that the winning forum each year will have to provide the next venue. That way the travel should balance out, over time.

Hope this time you both got all the Fens pics.

Fishing is the most peaceful & solitary group activity a going. Every watewr is different every day, thanks for that as same would be boring....

I see a few potential problems, one being you may struggle to even get one forum team let alone 10. Most forums are species specific and many will not have members who match fish or have any interest in it. A lot of clubs struggle to get enough members to attend internal matches and even less want to represent their club. Can't see forums having any better luck.

Those who do match fish may want a better potential return in prize funds for the amount of subs being requested. Plus with it being a river most will want section pools to give them a chance of a return. With out knowing anything about match fishing, I know that most match men these days like to fish commercials and so your river plan might not even appeal to match anglers.

Plus who or what will pay for the peg fees, trophy, scales and sundries etc

Oh dear, I am being all negative again so I will not post any more negatives and wish you well.

Stephen

its been done ,in fact i for my sins helped run things until someone compitent could take things over ,it used too be called the "Intersite series" where teams from verious forums would fish matches in different regions northen southen easten western on verious venus rivers/fens/drains and commercials /lakes with a shield for each region and a open match for individuals with each site entering the team matches getting places as the main event at barston (in the w.midlands) the individual match being the highlight .that fish trophy cost a couple hundred pounds alone .then there was little trophy's for second & third place plus medals for section winners and a BBq ,pools paid winner ,second and section winners

me (on the right) handing over the trophy ,to the match winner

DSC00447.jpg

problem was pools was involved ,which led to 'ringers' & 'venue experts' moving in to plunder the pools at some venus ,when it was ment too be about cooperation and inter forum fun .we came up with the trophy's and lilited the pools to dissuade ringers etc .i beleave some of the matches still take place ,but its noware near what it once was ,it stopped being fun and became just another open match on the circuit.

match fishing in general has been in a slump ,no one is intrested in matches on rivers ,only on commercials where they can catch a good bag of fish .and having organised a few of the matches .its not easy to get the teams too fish rivers as they're too veriable between sections .where as on commercials you can get a more even chance of being on fish in most sections.admittedly the Intersite series was all about match fishing i.e pole fishing and feeder fishing .

there was talk of introducing intersite challenge series for the non match anglers with a series of ""matches"" (for technical reasons they had too be matches ,in order too book some venues) where sites would sellect/nominate teams for the challenge and then sellect pairs (or teams of threes where appropiate) to fish each round ,but limited to one specialist (teams to include experianced member in each discipline to cover trotting ,carp fishing ,barbel/chub fishing ,pike ,tench ,sea etc (whatever the final round selection was going too be ) then the teams would score points for species ,total weight & heaviest individual fish/catch bonus. but it was a logistical nightmare and never got off the ground.

biggest hurdle is costs ,travelling great distances with no hope of recouping the cost even if you won the pools ,second problem is suitable venues with easy access travel wise.

Mark don't be put off by me as I tend to be the sort that picks holes in things rather then see all the positives.

I do admire your enthusiasm for angling projects, I get the feeling that you would be a valuable member of a local angling club with your penchant for coming up with ideas and interest in angling projects. Being part of a committee or just a willing member might give you a good avenue to get some of your ideas off the ground.

Well if you feel guilty for what you said, DON'T.

Criticism & honesty always preferable to the fake support.

Fancy the Fens, for a small gathering, in July? Doing Vermudens drain, ( junction north of Chatteris), possibly for a weekend?

The Fens are a bit of a trek for me and so I am unlikely to attend. This season I have gone all in on Syndicate tickets and so will be watching how much I spend on my other fishing. My plans for the year are some session fishing for Carp through out the year on a yearly ticket (Not a good one to post on here with the general attitude to Carp session fishing) and I have a 4 month ticket to another water running from July which I will be session coarse angling unless I turn in to an out and out Carper and I try for the Carp on that water

The only other fishing I plan to do will be some river fishing on my local river lea partly because I find it challenging and partly to keep costs down, so other then the 2 syndicate waters I will not be traveling far for my fishing this year. The costs to head up your way are rather off putting as well as the drain on time. The problem with taking membership for waters is if you don't fish them then you have wasted a lot of cash, so when I join a water I like to spend as much time as i can on them, which is not easy when you have to balance fishing with the rest of your life.

If you are looking for a meet with other AN members, take a look here.

I will most likely put my name down but as I have attended for the last few years I may miss out as Steve gives priority to those who have not been before.

one thing you could do is just organise a fish in but not limit it to just one forum ,but invite other forums too attend ,make the cost cover the day tickets + a small donation .I've had successfull days doing this .

the main problem thesedays organising big events /leagues etc is the diversity of forums ,from big forum sites to facebook groups ,members are spread out .and there will always be a core of dedicated members who would be intrested in representing their forums with a band of frequent and infreaquent users thats hard to pin down .

but if you started in a smaller way then things are more managable and full attendance more likley .then theres room for things too grow.
