Not too hard to get disoriented when the cane grass is growing, as it is usually 10-12 ft high.

When I was in my teens (many moons ago) I was investigating a lake in a private estate. It was surrounded with what appeared to be bamboos. I shoved my way in to these (pretty dense) and found the edge of the lake, but could I find my way back? Had I been on my own I may still have been there but headed in the direction from where my mate was calling out to me.
