Would go from stranraer, buts thats scotland, and im in south east england!! And im going to south ireland, so im looking for dublin or rosslare really.

Only time i can go is January in 13months time, but i will happily go at night.

flying could be worth it, im not a fan of ferries anyway, had to wait outside for 4 hours for a ferry from the isle of man. and then the food was a tasty as a turd.

thanks, dave.

Peggy and I went to Ireland a few years ago and booked at B&Bs via a voucher scheme from the ferry company. As I recall the first 3 nights were effectively free as we had to pay for only 4 vouchers.

Yes, I have a guide, i will ask him, i just wanted to have a look for myself first.

Just had a look at flights, i saw one for a fiver, heathrow to dublin (per person) but £16 for return leg, hire cars seem to be around £100 per week upwards, thats with a little cheap corsa, no need for a BMW when fishing, probably take the car back smelling of deadbaits!

thanks, dave

There is a ferry service from Mostyn,it is a long haul though, but cheaper than the two main ferries.

Last time we went over we booked accomodation as well as the ferry-with Irish ferries and it worked out quite reasonable.Only drawback-the accomadation was not brilliant.

I go from troon to belfast then drive down south every year.I have found the best way to get a bargain ferry crossing is to go to one of the national shows like the outdoor show or more recently the holiday show. The irish tourist board and the ferry companies are always there and always have deal on the go especially if you book there and then.Check if there one of these shows near you and go along for a look.

This might seem like a daft question, but do you need a passport for republic of ireland

Thanks, dave.

Yeah,you do.

It only came in about 3 or 4 years ago,but generally if you've a UK driving license and an English accent then that should be good enough, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to get one for going over there anyway.Trying to make out you're a Lithuanian for a joke might not go down too well... ;)

Thankyou fergie, will look into it, i wonder whether the cost of entry to a angling show and getting there could be more than I save though. and thankyou steve and chuby, abit daft of me to think i might not need a passport to a non UK country.

dave.
