Hi Peter

Get hold of some Niger seeds and a suitable hanging dispenser and the Goldfinches will be soon become regular visitors to your garden.

They'll be squabbling over this delicacy before you know it.

If you do go down this route, make sure you don't make the same mistake as I did. Try to position the feeder near a bush or tree, giving any feeding birds refuge from the attentions of the local Sparrowhawk. It's likely that if you don't, your lawn will soon resemble the aftermath of a St Trinians pillow fight. :D

"My" finches come mainly for a drink from the tiny pumped stream..created specially to attract birds.

Day before yesterday, when it was hot and dry, a Woody actually sat down in one of the little pools :) and had a good cooling off :)

Steve, nice work mate, but color is not right, the GF's do actually have a slight yellow tinge to the white areas, and they akso seem to have very "soft" feathers, which don/t define well (not like sparrows for instance)

Den

"When through the woods and forest glades I wanderAnd hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees; When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,And hear the brook, and feel the breeze;and see the waves crash on the shore,Then sings my soul..................

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))

What an absolutely beautiful picture. You can be rightly proud of that one !!:thumbs:

This shot has got to be a family heirloom.

Such a pity that this picture is outside the current comp time frame .. I cannot begin to imagine a better example of the word ..

Beautiful shot Steve - very natural and nicely composed.

Snatcher - that's a hefty pollock, mate. Congrats on the fish and also on the C&R.

Pip, my daughter, encouraged me out of bed at 6am today. She's nice like that. Sitting at the 'puter, when this friendly little chap decided to have a nut breakfast. It reminds me to clean the windows... :)

Westie.

If you're being chased by a police dog, try not to go through a tunnel, then on to a little seesaw, then jump through a hoop of fire. They're trained for that.
