Strange they say its of concern when less than 2 thousand die in a year yet dont mention 400 children die every day of malaria!?!

Surely they should be fitting electric bug zappers on every tree

More people are dying in Congo as a result of Measles than Ebola but neither Measles nor Malaria are ever likely to cause a major pandemic that affects developed nations - Ebola just might if it gets the right evolutionary (or manmade) tweak.
H5N1 or the coronavirus behind SARS have similar potential for mayhem.

Its obviously not a concern an infected passenger could fly to anywhere on earth before any symptoms appear ,if ebola is that bad why is heathrow and gatwick still open ?

There is an old saying about bolting horses and (unbolted) stable doors.

Nobody thinks it will happen until it does.

It's still not over.

On Friday, the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Ebola technical committee confirmed that the virus had returned to Butembo - just 10 days after the former hot spot was cleared of the disease.

There were six new cases confirmed with four of the cases from Mandima, and both Butembo and Kalunguta reported a single case.

Total cases are now 3,260, including 2,177 deaths.

Measles is actually killing more people in DRC than Ebola and is another relatively recent transfer to humans from animals but the potential global consequences of an Ebola variant that evolves to be just a tiny bit better at finding new hosts is terrifying.

DR Congo is hoping to declare its recent Ebola outbreak over by next month if no new cases are discovered in the next three weeks.

However:

Health authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo have confirmed the first case of coronavirus in the country in the capital, Kinshasa.

The patient is a Belgian citizen who has been in the country for several days, Health Minister Eteni Longondo said.

"We are tracking people who came into contact with him so that they too can be placed in quarantine, and tested," Mr Longondo said.

The central African nation is the seventh sub-Saharan country to confirm a case of coronavirus.

Kinshasa is a city of 12 million people!

Hopefully coronavirus will go there to divert attention to what (in reality) is not a great disease as its not in the headlines!

Perhaps they will mutate into a super virus sort of eborovirus- 20 should work better then!
