not sure a poll is the best way to answer your questions.

if you're using mono, a minimum of 15lb (diawa sensor or something similar) if you're using braid, something with a decent diameter (50lb powerpro is a popular choice) for live and dead baiting a fixed spool reel is the one to go for, but if you're lure fishing a multiplier is prefered by many (including me and many AN regulars)

 

the test curve of the rod has no relation to the size of the fish you're targeting, it's more concerned with what you intend to cast (baits and weights)

30lb braid, baitrunner reel and 3lb test curve rod. Good luck with the thirty pounders, you'll soon get bored with them.

It all depends on the method that I'm employing and the water that I'm fishing.

Also, just becase a water holds pike to 30lbs, it doesn't mean that I'll be specifically targeting the big fish.
