The intelligence of the Crow

As a kid we had an indoor/outdoor crow - Kinda cool but I was pretty little. More amazing however was a Professor of something (first name Irene) that came into the Valley National Bank in Phoenix when I worked there.

It talked (mimic) very well - much better than her parrot.

"When through the woods and forest glades I wanderAnd hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees; When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,And hear the brook, and feel the breeze;and see the waves crash on the shore,Then sings my soul..................

I have seen a crow kill a peregrine falcon before. The falcon was feasting on a pigeon and it dive bombed it and killed it outright.

I once saw an incident which really surprised me. A magpie attacked a small dove held it down pecked its eyes out and watched it trot round blinded before it just flew off. I thought maybe it was a mother defending its youngsters as they will attack humans at times ( search Australian Magpie human attacks on u-tube) but it was in September?
