Groundbait mixed with tapwater?

Chesters, I don't think the flavour of the water has much to do with it either. Maybe I'm biased because we get our water from Loch Katrine and that's about as pure as water gets, so it doesn't contain anything that offputting. I don't know what your tapwater is like but I know it varies in quality all over the UK.

Its the background flavour ,if water tastes of X then perhaps the fish do? Therefore disappear from the flavour stakes wheras a nice juicy seafish tastes of salt and pirate pee with a hint of sunscreen oil so its noticable?

Tapwater definately has its taste ,we use a filter just so we can taste tea rather than tapwater with tea essence, even "clean" water miles from anywhere will taste of something even the peat in such places will taint it ,if your not used to it it will have a distinct flavour the only water that does not is reverse osmosis made water which has little taste of anything even water taste!

In theory chucking a bucket of completely clean water in a pond will have a taste ....of nothing so will have a taste ,until it mixes with the surrounding water ofcourse ,the sea even has freshwater layers which to a seafish will taste extremely strange

Fussy buggers. You should oik them out and make them into fishcakes for their cheek.

I am fat ,i can have a burger in a few minutes ...it takes a couple of days to flush out the muddy taste from a crayfish, i really cant waste my time for a few scraggy bits of pond meat
