I seem to recall seeing it a while ago and Nigger was dubbed over as Blackie. I'm sure the last time I saw it it was back to Nigger though....I guess Labradors aren't so bothered!

Apparently they've changed the name for Peter Jacksons long delayed remake to "digger" (apparently you can thank Stephen Fry for that little historical inaccuracy) mind you considering Hollywoods prop

Actually (yep, one of your actuallys :) ) I don't think nigger is racialist, it is just an insulting word if you are black. I am def racialist and it ranges from down right hatred of some to a mild dislike of others, but that has nothing to do with using insulting language.

Both ITV3 and channel 5 have shown it uncut however ITV did show one version which had all the references to the dogs name edited out which was was criticised by the Index on Censorship as "unnecessary and ridiculous" and because the edits introduced continuity errors. Apparently in some american versions dubbing was used to change his name to Trigger.

It's also a bit annoying to me (the whole Mirror/Clarkson non event) from the point of view that the rhyme JC was using to choose a car was penned by that great British writer Rudyard Kipling. Many other great authors have had their writings altered to suit modern "sensibilities" regarding the word Nigger including Mark Twain and Agatha Christie.

 

One could imagine a furore if he pointed at an "African American" and called him a Nigger but, to criticise him for the use an age old chidren's counting rhyme to do exactly as it was meant is just laughable.

 

Oh well, just a sign of the times I suppose :wheelchair:
