Niggles after rebuild

Perhaps IE upgraded itself ,version 6 which i think is included with xp wasnt working with the update site as it was too long in the tooth

Generally with most OS's theres followers who compile their own copies of service packs and have downloads so its never totally unsupported except for later drivers on post xp machines .

I actually downgraded a slow machine but designed for win7 but found it difficult to source xp drivers for it ,with xp though it was very fast once i found generic versions ,not perfect but good enough as the owner didnt want to buy win7 so i put on xp which i had lying around.she only wanted it for mail and facebook so without the fancy bits bledding windows gets to bulk it up and demand yet more power it was faster using xp
