Bookshelves that don't sag

Recommended Posts

I want to put up some bookshelves - ones fixed to brackets screwed into the wall, as they are to go above a desk. All B&Q seem to have is melamine, which is cheap but sags badly. Does anyone know where I could get something more solid such as wood?

I just use planks and brackets ,the more brackets the less sag

Isn't there a timber/wood yard near you? One near me sells planks of varying sizes for less than half the price of stuff in Homebase.... I built a DVD cabinet capable of holding 250 DVD's for the princely sum of £30.

It's a good system, and easy to reposition the shelves when someone wants to steal some of your fishing tackle area for her Open University course books collection. :)

Sure it wasn't quite so expensive when we did it, though. That was about seven or eight years ago.

Not glass......

Check out Ebay for hardwoods

Look for a deadstock market and check out the timbers there. At my local one there is often pieces of hardwood thrown out by double glazing and boat building companies.
