Could be that, unless you have thousands to spend, film cameras will soon be obsolete. Time to store a few in the loft!!

I had the light meter on a 20 year old Nikon SLR fail at the end of September last year, and it took me 6 weeks to find a company willing to get the camera repaired and serviced.

They were happy to service the camera but unable to replace the light meter.

So, new camera time - just a case of prioritising the cash to buy the replacement. I have got Nikon 28mm, 50mm and 80 - 200mm lenses as well as both 2 and 4x converters, and a decent flashgun, for which I will see if I can get a PX allowance when I buy the new camera.

Bit of a bummer, really. My current digital camera is cursed with a crap lens.

This is a signature, there are many signatures like it but this one is mine

Well, well, 'the King is dead, long live the king!'. I have two, an F80 and F60, Near mint condition, worthless now but in a few years time . . . . ? They will be put in mothballs, I should have the boxes for them in the loft. ;)

At least I will still be able to get film camera's :D if I really want them. I have 2 Nikon F5's that have been used twice in over 4 years, one only has 20 rolls of film through it.

I've been to Scrabster... and I want to go back!!!

I'll have them two F5 bodies off you David (just send them my way, to avoid them gathering dust!), as I find that good scans made from the F5 are often far better than the D2X and D200, and my workflow is geared towards film and scans.

I don't see any problem with Nikon halting production of some film cameras. They still make the superb F6 film camera (and a cheaper consumer SLR body as well), and companies such as Fuji will be providing film for a long time into the future. The present is also a great time to buy mint conditioned film camera equipment for rock-bottom prices. Film scanners and drum scanners still provide top quality digital files of 230MB or beyond, so you have the best of both worlds with using film.

I am not knocking digital cameras, as I also use them, but I really don't see any reason to worry about continuing to use film cameras for a long time into the future.

I would love to send them to you, but I keep them incase I need them, although I do know someone that will be selling a couple soon, if you're interested I will let you know how much he wants for them.

I love the F5, I just wish Nikon would make a digi camera that handled the same, even the D2x isn't as nice.
