Hi Steve, I know your busy at the moment but would you be able to post which swims were fished during the fishin.

Cheers Steve

Good idea. I've now added them to the report.

John Caddick (Quicksand Bay on the Carp Lake)- mirror carp of 36lbs and 20lbs plus a common of 15lbs. All on zigs 18ins deep and our first carp caught during the hours of the Fish-In rather than just before

I'll have to correct you there Steve, I had a 28lb common from the carp lake during the hours of the fish-in a few years back. :)

My final tally was four eels and a perch. The perch was small, but pretty;

The thing with the Wingham fish-in is that it's a great experience whether the fish cooperate or not. I forgot my thermals - I won't forget how cold the dawns were, nor how stunning.

The sky was so clear, so many stars visible, there can't be much light pollution there. And I saw two shooting stars on Sunday night.

Many thanks Steve B for giving me a place at the Fish-in and many thanks to all the bailiff team who put a lot in to making the event happen. As a man who loves his food a big thank you to Steve Campbell for the Bacon sandwich on arrival, just the thing to kick start the weekend. A massive thank you to Peggy, it was a hot weekend and to be stuck behind a BBQ can not have been much fun but she kept as well fed as usual.

One more thank you to Dave (Vagabond) for the tackle auction as I now have a new toy to play with.

I will not bore you with my fishing tactics as It just did not happen for me. I was after the eels and blanked out big time with not a single eel to my name. Picked up 2 random Pike at 10lb 2oz & 6lb 8oz but overall I had a shocker. Not being able to catch an eel at Wingham is rather tragic. Oh well as usual the good company and crack and ambiance of the place made it a good weekend.

Firstly, the thanks - many thanks to Steve B for the invitation, Steve C for the breakfast, Peggy for slaving away behind a roasting BBQ, all the bailiffs for all their hard work getting it all ready, and Vagabond for kicking off what I think will become a new regular feature in the tackle auction. Thanks, all.

Secondly, the fishing. Erm, well, not much to say about that except that I'm pretty sure the bream wandered through the swim on the second night. After dark I had a couple of very long, slow liners on the right rod, the same on the middle rod, and then again on the left rod. An hour or so later they came back the other way. From the position of the rods and number of lifts of the bobbin I can say that there were probably 2 fish (possibly 3) and that they were well off the bottom, very close to the bank, probably only about 5 yards out. They weren't feeding, just moving through. That got the heart racing I can tell you. It was well worth going just for that!

The conditions made the fishing very hard, baking hot, no wind, clear skies, and big bright moon. I tried on the tops of the bars in different depths, at the base of the bars at different depths, gravel, silt, the bottom of the marginal shelf, right next to weedbeds, everything I could think of, but all I could muster was one small eel. But it certainly wasn't my first Wingham blank and I had a really great weekend regardless. It was really good to catch up with everyone and just spend some time away from work in the sunshine, relaxing with the wildlife. Well done to everyone who did catch though, every fish caught was a result in those conditions.

As a good indicator of the amount of natural food we were competing with, when I was packing up i spent quite a long time picking hatching damsel nymphs off everything, they were everywhere!

A couple of pics to finish with:

A massive thanks for Steve for letting us back again, I love this place :)

Thanks to all those that made it possible, you can see how much effort you guys put in, the place looks immaculate.

Fishing was hard but we managed to winkle out a tench of 6lb 8oz. A lovely plump fish and fought hard in the margins. We had plenty of bleeps on the alarms and dips on the float but for whatever reason the fish seemed to be always passing.

I have put together a little video, 2mins. I will have to plan it abit more next time to capture the story a little better but hopefully it allows others to see the beauty of this magical place. Watch on youtube for the 1080 version :)
